Re: An Update from the Prodigal High Councillor
It's so great to hear your report. My wife is believing LDS but very understanding, and a great listener. Sometimes I think all we can do is just show that NOM's are normal, that we didn't go off the rails into sin or oblivion. It's been curious to visit my home ward now. I go about once every 3-4 ...

Re: What was King David Really Like?
I personally think King David is a myth comparable to King Arthur. But a lot of LDS think he was real. A lot of the same LDS also believe if a prophet is disobedient God takes him off the earth. If this is so why didn't God take King David off the earth?
The murderer certainly earned it.

Re: Unusual Mission Call
Wow, that's interesting! From the Idaho Statesman, Feb. 13, 2026: "Sunday marked a milestone for Treasure Valley members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: the announcement of the first Swahili-language ward in the U.S. There are other Swahili-speaking LDS congregations around the ...

A sadder man but wiser...
We read a poem in 9th grade English called the "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" and the line "a sadder man but wiser" has kind of stuck with me, even 55 years later. Are there things anyone has learned that made you sadder but wiser? Looks like I forgot how to spell. And actually my last ten ...

Re: New Apostle called - Clark Gilbert
I don't know much about Gilbert. Reading about some of his decisions as Commissioner of Education, it seems like he might a "the beatings will continue until the attitude improves" type of guy.

Deacon's Board of Peace.
I am announcing the formation of the "Deacon Blues Board of Peace." 8-) The fee to join is $1,000 for individuals, $5,000 for families, $10,000 for corporations, and $100,000 for nations, which I need not add but I will anyway is a BARGAIN, considering the current Board of Peace market! We ...

Thanks Fluffy and alas for the perfect responses. I learned a new idea- TDLR  Sometimes I get overly excited over little things. And then I blow them out of proportion. :? The thing that sparked me was where the guy actually laid opposing perspectives, which is rare in religious & political ...

Polygamy deniers are so close to the truth.
This is another example of how polygamy deniers are dang close to reality, at least that is how I see it. Check this podcast out.

Re: Jeffrey Holland dead
It would be interesting to see Uchtdorf become president. We might see a little more openness, but he would need a consensus to make changes.

Elder Holland passes on.
This reminds me that the next four senior apostles are Pres. Eyring (92 years old), Elder Uchtdorf (85 yrs), Elder Bednar (73 yrs), Elder Cook (85 yrs). Pres. Oaks is 93. Uchtdorf and Bednar are likely future presidents. Cook not so much.

Thanks for reminding us of the "Marriage on a Tightrope Podcasts." They were a great help to me. I haven't watched them for a couple of years. They are still on Youtube!

Re: Spiritual abuse
That can be a real challenge. Especially because the LDS can be overbearing about raising children in their version of "the Truth." My wife (TBM) and I (deist) have some real interesting discussions, but my shelf didn't break until our kids were all raised. I watch our kids in mixed marriages, and ...

If a law was passed that you had to be a member of an established Church, which would you join. (don't laugh, crazier things have happened)

Exactly. The Bible is likely full of propaganda. As is the Quran, The Book of Mormon, and all other "scripture."

Freedom of Speech is a secular concept.
Some of you know of my hobby- reading history. I'm currently reading parallel diaries of David O. McKay and Ernest Wilkinson, president of BYU during the 1960's. In 1968 Wilkinson held a Dean's meeting where the topic of campus unrest and free speech came up. Wilkinson reports in his diary that a ...

Hugh Thompson Jr.
I suspect most viewers don't know who Hugh Thompson Jr. was. He was the soldier who ended the My Lai massacre in Viet Nam. He stopped other men from following illegal orders to murder non-combatants. If you don't know the story, google My Lai massacre or Hugh Thompson Jr. It is important to ...

Re: The simplest questions
I've been reading Ernest Wilkinson's (Pres. of BYU from 1951-71, for you young folks) diarys. Why did the Church waffle back and forth from 1954 to 1962 about whether to move Ricks College (Now BYU-I) from Rexburg to Idaho Falls? Wilkinson says it's because Pres. McKay couldn't make up his ...

What was King David Really Like?
There is a series on TV about King David that I haven't watched yet, but I'm thinking about David and thinking he was probably really a shyster, especially if he really murdered Uriah and stole Bathsheba. My hypothesis is this: for propaganda reasons and because he was viewed as composing the early ...
